‘I Believe’ License Plate Banned by Judge

Judge Cameron Currie of South Carolina ruled that a new license plate design was a violation of the First Amendment, which prohibits Congress from making a law “respecting an establishment of religion.”

Last year South Carolina lawmakers, with the help of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, approved the “I Believe” plate.  But, it was a liberal judge who ruled against the wishes of the South Carolina Legislature, who represent the people of the state.

Bauer said he wasn’t surprised by the ruling and would like to see it appealed. “I don’t expect anything different from a liberal judge who was appointed by Bill Clinton,” Bauer said. “If she wants to single me out, so be it.”

Of course the A.C.L.U. has to stick their nose into the situation, stating that “people are trying to get the state to endorse their religion, and that’s wrong.” What the A.C.L.U. seems to forget is that the United States was founded on Christian principles and we have “In God We Trust” stamped on our currency. This license plate is not mandatory - it’s an optional place that the people of South Carolina can opt for.
